Who Art Thou, Lord? (Poem)
Who are You?
I have asked;
I am asking;
I do want to know.
I have read of You,
They speak of You;
Men worldwide know You,
Though many fail to acknowledge You.
Yet, I must admit
I know You not.
Who are You?
I want to know.
You told Moses, “I AM,”
Abraham called You, “Possessor of heaven and earth,”
The psalmist called You, “JAH,”
My generation says, “A Supreme Being.”
Who are You, Lord?
I question not in defiance
As did Pharaoh,
But as one who does need to know.
The psalmist said You made Your ways known to Moses;
That is what I want.
You showed Moses Your glory;
Oh! That I may behold and yet live.
You asked that we seek;
I am seeking.
Oh! For grace to seek with my whole heart,
That I seek not in vain.
You once sought for a man to stand in the gap;
Can You help this yet to be righteous fellow
Be such a man
Who would stand in the gap in this generation?
Would You please help this fellow
Be the Daniel, the Noah, the Moses, the Elisha
That this generation need?
Would You please?
Who art Thou, Lord?
I want to know
Not only by writings, dreams, or visions,
But also by the manifestation of Thy glory.
That I may see Thee;
That I may know Thee;
That I may make men know Thee;
That I may live for Thee all my days.
Who art Thou, Lord?
“And this is eternal life: that people can know you, the only true God, and that they can know Jesus Christ, the one you sent.” (John 17:3, ERV).
Dear friend,
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8, KJV).
I do not contest your desire to know God, but first thing first; have you made your life a dwelling place for His presence? Have you offered yourself as a living sacrifice? Have you purified and disciplined your heart? Are your thoughts and ways pure? God promised that He would be found if we seek Him with our whole hearts (Jeremiah 29:13). Have you sought in that manner? Have you?!
God would gladly reveal Himself to you when you seek Him with your whole heart; a heart that is pure; one that longest for Him; one that refuses to be defiled by the happenings around (Psalms 42:1–2; Daniel 1:8). You would find God, only if you seek with the right heart and motive; only if and when you constantly have a pursuit for His righteousness and holiness (Hebrews 12:14). Only then would God open your eyes to His mysteries (Psalms 25:14).
“Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, … the mighty man … in his might, … the rich man … in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, …” (Jeremiah 9:23-24, KJV).
“Oh, that we might know the LORD! Let us press on to know him …” (Hosea 6:3, NLT).
Stay blessed,
Your friend
