To please someone is to make them happy, satisfied, or content by fulfilling their desires or expectations. It could be doing something that a person approves.

When a man’s ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7, KJV).

This verse of the Bible tells us that it’s very possible to please God.

Pleasing God implies that we come in alignment with God’s will for our lives. Indeed, two cannot walk together except they be agreed (Amos 3:3). God is able to go forth with His will for our lives when our lives are pleasing unto Him.

How Can We Please God?

- By faith

The Bible says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6, KJV).

The way to please God is to trust His every word, for what He says He does. If we can trust Him, it sets the foundation for a good relationship with Him.

Faith is our access to God. If we don’t trust God, we won’t call Him, and when we don’t call on Him, we indirectly call on something else.

As believers, we can’t but have faith for it is our belief in the finished works of Christ for us that establishes the foundation of our Christian belief (John 1:12).

- Obedience

By faith Abraham obeyed…” (Hebrews 11:8, NKJV).

We cannot say we are pleasing to a person when we disobey their command (i.e., do what they do not approve of). Our obedience to God is fundamental to pleasing him.

We must also know that our obedience is linked with our faith in God, for our faith in God fuels our obedience to Him, and our obedience is a testament of our love for God. If we can trust God for everything concerning our lives, we are more likely to obey His every command.

Examples of People Whose Faith Fueled Their Obedience to God

  • Abraham trusted God so much that when the Lord asked for his son, he believed God would raise Isaac back from the dead, and he was willing to do as the Lord commanded.
  • Daniel’s faith in God made him continue praying to God even when a rule opposed it. He dared to be devoured by lions.
  • The faith and commitment of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego made them refuse to bow to King Nebuchadnezzar’s idol, leading to their encounter with the fourth man in the fire. Through faith, they triumphed over untimely death and glorified God.

The Rewards of Pleasing God

  • Peace (Proverbs 16:7)
  • All-around protection from God (Job 1:8–10)
  • Blessings from God (Job 1:8–10)
  • Being considered righteous like Abraham
  • Becoming greatly beloved by God like Daniel
  • The opportunity to be friends with God and walk with Him like Abraham and Enoch.

Brethren, to please God, we must possess faith in Him, and this translates to our obedience and love for Him. Thank you.
