To Go Farther

When I was younger, I never really understood the phrase, “if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together,” but as I grew, it seemed to become clearer. I have realised that when “God said, It is not good that the man should be alone,” man’s independence was replaced with interdependence (Genesis 2:18, KJV). In other words, we need people to help us achieve great goals. This does not mean that a person alone can’t achieve goals; it means to grow beyond one’s capacity, to achieve things beyond one’s initial goals, such a person must be willing to go with people who share the same vision.

When a person starts alone, it seems fast because he/she can start working on his/her decision immediately, which may not be the case in a group, as there would have to be different thought processes coming together before a unified vision is established. Nonetheless, there is only so much a single person can do alone; and regardless of how talented such an individual might be, there is a limitation of speed with respect to labour and carrying out activities. To achieve one’s vision faster and to even go beyond one’s vision and goals, one must be willing to work with people who share their passion, goals, and vision.

The Lord Jesus had to take disciples as soon as He started His ministry because He had a great vision, and He was aware that “Two people are better than one. When two people work together, they get more work done” (Ecclesiastes 4:9, ERV). And when He departed, it was His disciples who took the gospel around the world.

It is great to go fast when you start a thing or project, but greater to go much faster and farther than your vision. We could all start alone, but as long as we seek growth and greater ground, we must all search for men and women whose vision and passion align with ours. This indeed would be tasking but in the long run much rewarding.

Some journeys may require being done alone; nonetheless, most require that we go with other people.

Let’s all go farther and do great things for humanity together.
